So.. you want to use a cheap pet sitter or a friend ? THIS IS A TRUE STORY

If you have a Facebook account – please go to to read the full note.  Otherwise, if you don’t have the time nor inclination here are the “juicy bits” and the reason why I am writing a blog post on this topic.

I found out about this with thanks to the Professional United Pet Sitters forums today.

my friends two dogs were neglected and obviously starved for an uncertain amount of time.

My friends S and P were going off to the Dominican Republic to get married. They decided to leave their dogs Bruno and Dakota in the hands of their “so called” good friend D.  My husband S and [ the groom ] P have known D for about 20 years so they trusted him to look after their dogs and he was to live in their house while they were gone to take care of things and the fur babies.

They came home late and exhausted from their long flight to find their house in complete disarray. There was dog waste everywhere, couches ripped up, the remote control gnawed apart and everything was a disaster, they found Dakota in decent shape but very nervous and then they found Bruno. Bruno was lying on the floor not moving having an arrhythmia.

it cost them 500 dollars a day to keep him in the ICU on the medication and fluids, their bill now is $9400.00

Now think about it.  Would you rather fork out $500 for a professional pet sitter who has public liability insurance or would you rather be out $9400 with having to seek donations from the public because it’s “cheaper” to hire your trusted friend ?

I know which I would rather as a pet parent myself.

Check that your pet sitter is an ethical professional – make sure your pet sitter has public liability insurance, current police check certificate and ABN.  Also, check the pet sitter’s references and go with sitters who are also members of up-standing organisations.

As the owner of Gold Coast Pet Sitting, I can assure you that I only employ trustworthy, ethical, true animal lovers who can show proof of their public liability insurance, police check certificate and references. I’m also trained in Pet First Aid and CPR and those who work with my company are also Pet First Aid informed.
