The following information has been collated from various dog nutrition knowledge-able people and websites.

I originally started off with a list of 14.   Then I did a broadcast on my personal Periscope channel where my viewers blew the list up to 21 !   Then my ParachuteTV viewers even blew that list even further..

Before I list some of the foods I need to mention that it is always best to go with fresh, high grade, organic and/or the least amount of preservatives (if any) at all possible.   Lots of people knowledgeable in pet health will advise against “dog meat” as it is usually second grade meat that isn’t good for human consumption.  Believe me, if the meat isn’t good enough for us .. it can’t be terribly good over the long-run for our pets (including cats!)

  • Peanut Butter:  always in moderation as be careful of how fattening this can be for your dog
  • Greek Yogurt:  always in moderation as be mindful of a dog’s lactose intolerance
  • Oatmeal / Porridge
  • Pumpkin
  • Carrots:  even better if they eat them whole as it can assist with cleaning their teeth like a bone
  • Chicken:  some dogs can eat chicken necks and frames – do so under supervision always. NEVER give any dog cooked bones!
  • Mince meat:  as best quality as possible – beef, lamb, chicken.  Raw is okay.
  • Green Beans
  • Cottage Cheese:  always in moderation as be mindful of a dog’s lactose intolerance
  • Eggs:  best to give them hard boiled over raw.  The shell of the egg is also good for dogs ! I like to break the shell up into tiny pieces to mix in food.
  • Apples:  never the seeds however the rest of the apple is fine
  • Avocado:  never the leaves, fruit, seeds or bark! The pulp is fine for dogs to eat! (click here to learn more about the benefits of avocado for dogs and cats)
  • Blueberries
  • Popcorn: as plain as possible is best!  It’s one of the least harmful “treats” for dogs.
  • Sweet Potato
  • Potato
  • Honey
  • Rice
